Thread: Xbox 360 update help

My son got NHL 09 in Feb and last month the game wouldn't play and a message came up saying the disc needed to be cleaned. Even though it didn't appear dirty, i cleaned it but still got the same message. I stopped by Game stop the other day and they said the 360 probably needed to be upgated. I don't have it hooked up to the internet but read on the 360 website I could DL the update and put it in the system and do it that way. I tried three different tmes and it kept saying unreadable disc. I tried emailing the issue to Microsoft but haven't recieved a response, it's been three days. Has anyone updated theres using this method? I followed the directions to a T, they were pretty cut and dry but still can't get it to work.

Well, tried the above mentioned aproach and still no change. I went back to Gamestop today and talked to the fine folks there and still got nowhere. They told me that the game needed the update?! WTF!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to pull my hair out. I tried the other games in the system and they all worked, put the NHL 09 in and came up with the message again. The message says that the game needs to be cleaned. Again, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! The game looks just as it did when I opened it. Do they sell something that I can use to clean the disc that will somehow register with the console that I have cleaned it? Since I am begining to think that this is a giant conspiracy therory in order for for me to spend twenty bucks on a disc cleaning thingy so my son can play his game again which by now I am wiliing to do if this will end this insanity. Someone please tell me there is an xbox 360 for dummies book out there for me to buy.

Well, first things first.

You never EVER buy games from Gamestop. They are scammers and have nothing but idiots working there.

As for NHL 09... I have no idea about the cache stuff. If it does say it's "unreadable", then there is definitely something wrong with the NHL 09 disc.

As for an update, you NEED to update the game to play it. There are tons of bugs/patches that must be downloaded for you to play the game. And you need to be connected to Xbox Live to play the Be a Pro mode as well. You can't make a character and play it offline. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone can correct me there.

But I do know that if my internet goes down, I can't play the Be A Pro mode offline because I have to be "signed in".
