If you want to get a knife kill on the bear, this is what I did.

I was on my horse (online free roam with LGKDS) and all you need to do is stand still. The bear was attacking from the side and I guess if you're on your horse, that is the first target. Don't move at all and just swing your knife. You'll kill the bear in 1-2 hits if I recall correctly..

I've tried chasing after it when it was distracted and no matter how much I know I hit the bear with the knife, nothing happened until he turned around to kill me.

The North Area is Act 3 single player.

Best way to attack the bears is to use your speed advantage. let them come in for you, sidestep at the last moment, and sideswipe with the attack button when it starts to go by.

If you need them in MP then do it on a map with other people so someone can distract.

Well there's a bunch of scraps you can get in thieves landing, usually at the tailor shop.

Not sure which one you are referring to.

I found a treasure in the basement of the warehouse at Theives Landing.
