    Default 27 Years And It Still Hurts

    27 years ago today was the space shuttle Challenger disaster and it still hurts. I was in high school when I heard the news.

    RIP.



    We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of Earth' to 'touch the face of God.'

    Tragic day for sure, which I remember vividly like it happened last week, not 27 years ago.

    Just out of college (I mean just graduated) and was at work and watched it live on a TV in the lobby. I remember the feeling of shock like it was yesterday. RIP Challenger crew ...

    I was in 5th grade, our principle called an emergency fire-drill so we all went out to the soccer field where she proceeded to tell our entire school what had happened. At 10 years old I don't think I fully grasped it all other than a spaceship blew up. I watched the footage yesterday and was very taken back. Our school district ended up changing the name of our middle school to Mcauliffe.

    I remember this very vividly as well. I worked for Vons at the time, and was in "checker training" school up at a Vons in Mission Hills.

    We took a break from the training to watch the launch, I remember, and recall the sadness, horror and "sick to my stomach" feeling everyone in the room experienced as we watched the tragedy unfold before us on the screen. I also recall many others in the ensuing hours and days feeling this great pain as well.

    God bless all those who died on that day.
