Default Anyone ever try to privately sell a car?

Bought a new car, dealer trade price was good enough that if I can't sell my old one in 2 weeks I'll go back to them but we've decided to try a private sale. Anyone have any do not do tips?

We live close enough to a community college and are planning on parking it there during the days with a for sale sign

Listing on craigslist (and hoping not to get inundated with photo's of random penises)

Selling it in the bay area so probably nobody in Southern california is going to want it.

We are also checking family and close friends to see if anyone needs a car that still runs before we let it go. The car is good enough that I'm not worried about selling it to them and getting po'd at me for selling them a lemon.

Only thing I'm worried about is getting a phone number out there for the crazies but I'm going to have to talk to someone eventually and I don't want to buy a disposable phone like some kind of dealer.

Any other tips would be highly appreciated!

The more you can advertise, the better. Pennysaver, local newspapers, etc. Obviously, never post your home address. If you are really paranoid, don't let them meet you at your house to see the car. If you give out your cell number, it's harder to track your address, as opposed to a home landline.

Back in the day, that's how everybody sold their car. At least in NorCal where I grew up. Although, I do like Big Joe's idea...

Lulz my pops use to buy and resell cars on street when i was younger. When i would have to go out and show people cars always made it at a public place. If they wanted to test drive id ask for lic and sit in back seat. Also and not advising id carry a small .380 in my pocket.

You meet them at the bank to do the transfer. You drive the car there, and arrange a ride home.

He/she hands you cash/cashier's check, you sign the pink slip, deposit the money in your account, and you move on.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.
