I've made a ton of cash on eBay a few years ago. I was working a 30 hour a week job, and selling on eBay to supplement my income so I could afford to pay for private health insurance. Little did I know getting into it, was the time and dedication it can require when you really start rolling out more than a handful of auctions a day. It was quite rewarding and pretty fun. The problem I ran into was that it got to the point of me working eBay stuff for 40+ hours and still had the other job. I couldn't keep up. My ex was not comfortable with me quitting my paycheck job, so I quit the eBay biz instead.
I would cruise Orange County yard and garage sales, buy interesting and decent condition items for as low as possible (haggle and negotiate!), and set reserves on auctions for dollars over cost. Let the auction do it's work and people will bid up items worth buying (even some I thought would never sell). I would always mark up shipping a few dollars over for cost of packaging materials and time. Properly packaging and shipping is more costly and time consuming than one would initially think.
Treat eBay like a legitimate home business, and you can earn a pretty decent income from the investment. Overhead and start up must include a proper shipping scale, packaging materials, initial cash for inventory, high speed internet and decent computer with a good printer, and/or label printer for shipping labels. Organized storage for inventory items like racks in a garage are must.
Speaking of inventory, good record keeping becomes vital when eBay becomes more than a hobby. Ebay has tons of tutorials and 3rd party apps for getting a power seller account started and running.
I highly recommend eBay as a legitimate way of earning money from home, but like anything, you get what you put into it.

I'll throw this out there for anyone who might be interested in supplementary income.
I co-own a merchant processing company. We help businesses accept credit cards for payment, at a competitive rate. The market is saturated, but there are a few things that have helped our business become successful and stand out among the competition. (No bbb complaints, don't require contracts, we are not scum bags, etc.)
Income can be earned one of two ways:
1) Sign up a customer and receive a lump sum payment. (More if you do all the sales work, less if you just give me a referral to call/email/etc)
2) Sign up a customer and receive monthly residual payments for the life of the account.
Anyone interested can shoot me a pm, I'd be happy to go into greater detail. There are many different ways to go about selling. Over the phone, through email, in person, through social networking sites, etc.. If you wanted to stay inside and sell from your home, you can do so. Personally, I have found the easiest sells are the folks you do business with already. Your hockey shop, liquor store, dry cleaner, etc.

Its been pretty obvious from your posts that she wants to work out of the house, and that you've agreed to not have sex with her. If you put one and one together, she could make $300 to $400 per day if she fills her schedule properly.
Adgy will pay double if she's willing to dress up as a super hero, and quadruple if its a fuzzy super hero!
She should look into import/export opportunities. Companies from Japan may be trying to bring items to market in the US, and may need someone here to help sell their products regionally. Or she may have a product she loves back home that you can't find here in the States. If she misses it, Im sure many others probably miss it too.
Also I 2nd the ebay idea. If she has any knowledge of collectibles or pretty much an eye for anything of value, she could probably do well on there.
