So for a country on the upswing, they need to throw some serious money at infrastructure:

And the experts saying this couldn't happen to the US are full of ****. Our infrastructure is also aging, as witnessed in 2003:

Yes, there are 3 grids. My guess is that the Texas grid, which is the newest and most self sustainable, wouldn't implode like the other 2 could.

I've gotten less telemartking calls in the past couple of days, so I'm not gonna complain!

My Mom blames Al-Qaeda. Of course, she blames everything on Al-Qaeda.

Hopefully they won't be in a situation where they need to launch some of their nukes during this blackout

the idea of India going to a nuclear power grid scares me more than anything else....

Sounds like india didn't have safeties to isolate functioning power grids from downed ones. If one goes down and they're all still connected, the other two would see insane voltage drop and high amperage, thus putting working facilities out of commission. Crazy stuff. Thankfully the US does have these safeties in place, so a large power outage is possible (aging grids) but very unlikely that a majority of the country, or more than one grid goes down at a time.
