Benny's story: I'm 28 and have been living with a neuromuscular disease since the age of 2 years old. Throughout the years, many aspects of life, including transportation, have been difficult. Despite the challenges, I have been able to attend college and play power soccer. I am motivated and inspried to live an independent lifestyle. I have many things to accomplish still, many places to visit, and people to meet. My ambition, desire, and will to continue is not tarnished by my mental or physical health, but rather immobilized because the cost of an accessible van is way out of my reach. Mobility is an important part of an individual's independence. Winning this contest will open up many opportunities for me. I can continue my education, become a working citizen of society, live life, travel with my power soccer team, visit family, and attend social gatherings. The ability to be mobile (have a vehicle) has been the only aspect of my life that I have not been able to fix. With my family and I living paycheck to paycheck, saving and budgeting for an accessible van has been a very grueling and disappointing process.
