In my 34 + years of Law Enforcement, I have seen it all, and most of my colleagues in the profession have lived to tell about it, but not all of them. Do Not Resist! Comply. Doing that alone will almost always guarantee your safety.
I've heard all the stories; I'm well aware of the daily challenges the police officers face. It's not my eyes that are shut.
I can't tell you how many hours I have spent in Emergency being patched up, or with a partner being patched up, and I had a trainee (6'7" & 250 lbs) who was fighting with a PCP suspect (5'8" & 145 lbs) that almost lost his left arm to a severe bite inside his wrist. Do yourself a favor, if you have the cajones, and do a Ride-Along. It will open your eyes as to what cops put up and face everyday. Rant off
