    Default So Cox Cable Sucks....

so I cancelled their cable package. I still have internet and phone through them but wondering what Im going to do come hockey season. I tried to get directv for a bundle pack, which would have cost me $80 a month for phone, data, and tv but alas- they cant offer phone and without the phone the whole package comes to $130 or something there of.

    My questions are....

A)what is the best/cheapest way for me to get Prime Ticket to watch the Kings games without a cable provider if any? I do not want to watch on computer as my whole family watches the game and the quality through the computer to the tv through an HDMI lags.
B)what is the best internet service these days
C)I am totally comfy getting VOIP through the net.

    Any help on my dilemna?

Phone? People still have home phones? A lot of people I know are canceling their home phones. The only people to ever call are telemarketers anyway.

I'm using directv and have no complaints.

My past experiences are with Time Warner and Uverse. I'd take Directv over both. Prime ticket, FSW, and NHL Network come with the standard package.

Standard package + DVR and 3 rooms is roughly 100 for me. Plus showtime HBO Cinemax etc puts me at $150.

My Internet is still through Uverse. $50 a month but its an upgraded bandwith.

Seriously though, stop wasting money on a home phone :P

pfft, you don't need that extra package when you can hook the dvr up to the network and watch shows from those channels via On Demand.

No, it doesn't. NHLN comes with Ultimate and Premier which are the two most expensive packages. I have Extra which is right before that.

Now is a great time to sign up though. Free NFL Sunday ticket and they are still giving Genie to new customers. My bill is $67.44 for the Extra package with Genie and 2 additional clients but will go up $41 after the first 12 months is up and the credits expire.

We did the exact same thing, Hip. Our Cox bill went from $150 a month to $170 when we moved in December. After spendind hours and hours negotiating with Cox and all they would do is match directv offer for 12 months but without a whole home dvr and not getting some of the channels I'd get with DTV I cancelled the tv portion of the bundle, our home phone is like $11 a month so we kept that and I downgraded the internet which pays for the phone.

I'm sure you know 100 people including me who would love to give you an account number to knock off $10 off each persons bill a month for 10 months as well if you switched. You save a lot of money the first 12 months and then go back to what you would be paying so it makes it worthwhile. After the second year you can call DTV, Cox and whoever else and see who will give you the best deal again.

Are you watching Bob and Jim? And if so....how?

I have hooked the computer to my TV using HDMI but it cuts the screen down and there is a visible loss of quality.

Would love to go back to Directv, but without getting the bundle its a budget issue. And for the record, if I can get it going again going to request the NHL package as opposed to the football package. Most the good games are on broadcast tv, and all the games are played on Sunday anyhow. May be different if I was a big fan of a specific nfl team.

Yep. GCL and a VPN. I also have a subscription to "the other streaming service that shall not be named on LGK" as a back up.

Nothing fancy on the tech side. I have an "aux" HDMI cable coiled up under my TV stand. I string it over to my Macbook and connect through a MonoPrice lightning-HDMI adapter. My Macbook recognizes it as a 1080p monitor and automatically adjusts the resolution to 1920x1080.

I've been a cord cutter for 9-10 years now. I refuse to pay for 100+ channels I'm never going to watch.

quality issues can be tied to the type of a video card that your computer has, Hippie. or the resolution needs to be tweaked in the display settings?

btw, re: my earlier post about having extra channels like HBO, Starz, etc via On Demand, I found out that I need to add those channels to the package anyway. hey, I just hooked the dvr up to the network last week.
