Thread: Filipino wedding?

My wife and I were asked to be "sponsors" at the wedding for a woman who works for my wife. What does this honor mean and what is expected of us? I was assured that it is not a fiscal sponsorship so I don't need smart ass answers. It was explained that we were chosen because the groom and bride both look up to us and our relationship as husband and wife.

Forgot this is LGK and snarky answers are par for the course around here, that being said if anyone can educate me on Filipino wedding customs that would be appreciated.

someone really in the know may do better, but it seems you are more or less a witness to the ceremony, maybe sign the lic. and may be chosen as future Godparents.

I learned something today.

I was under the impression it was a financial sponsorship. The couple of Filipino weddings I've been to made it seem that way, but I was never directly told and never asked.

As a Filipino it can go either the financial, food-icial, or entertainial route. It's best to ask them what they need. It's a great thing to be chosen, I myself am the godfather to my best friends 6 month old son. He just won't let me babysit since he knows I will try to make his kid gay since he's such a homophobe. Just because I left him alone when he passed out drunk at a party while a gentleman named Ismael ever so gently rubbed his back, he thinks I would do such a think. He's right I would, I'm his best friend, that's what you're supposed to do.
