How would it be a waste of time? Assuming there are some medical bills, it would require D4P to document stuff and speak with the insured's company direct. (And he will undoubtedly end up with less money.) To do more work for less money seems like a waste of time and money to me.
Lots of people say this until they need one. Kinda like the fuzz...
If he deserves compensation, his best chance to make it happen is with a lawyer, period. (Assuming the bills, etc. are too high for small claims court.
With all due respect to lagwagon, I have never been involved in an incident where the claims adjuster just agreed to settle the claim at the proper amount off the bat/ Just last week I had two adjusters from different companies come out to inspect my car for two different incidents. First guy says "You need a new front bumper and paint. We'll give you $1,150." Second guy says "Your car needs a new bumper and new right headlight, also your right front fender, passenger door and hood need to be repaired We will give you $1500." God forbid I want the work done properly and not by Earl Scheib.
The cost to have it repaired as close to original as possible will probably end up costing closer to $12,000 once labor, parts and everything is included. Guess who will have to get an attorney involved if they refuse to deal with the insurance company once my car is dismantled? 1st world problem, i know, but I feel it necessary to point out that getting compensation or reimbursed by an insurance company more often than not requires effort and aid by someone in the know.
