oH man...from the 'when it rains' department, sooooooo my dell decides when money is at its tightest to go tits up graphics card wise. The replacement is in the $400 range. So, luckily(?) I still have a netbook to work with. Ouch. Anyone got a connection to Dell that can get those historical "just fell offa a truck" replacement parts???

On the plus side, with %80 of the packing/Sophie's Choice deciding done, and a couple of trips to the new place to transport delicate items and clean up the place(yeah...I know, but the 'devil has credit 'issues' that made him have to move into a place with a little looser management), anyhoo...it is all coming together and I am falling in love with the place big time. All my anxieties are starting to disappear and I can't f'n wait to get all set up in the new digs.

I got sick and tired of tripping over storage tubs and finally broke down and got a small storage locker for a couple of months... The delays on this house have been ridiculous...and I just can't wait to finally be out of this roach motel once and for all...even though it might be slightly more on utilities than I'm paying for my half of a month's rent with everything but the phone paid...

What are you pushing with the card? CAD, games, web browser? If you aren't pushing heavy OpenGL, you can get by with a lot less than a $400 card.

according to my it guy, who designed the thing, it's the only option...dell xps m1730, the card in question is geoforce 8700gt. Any alternative suggestions? Basically need it for basic video(monkeys flinging poo/dwarf porn) and general up-to-no-good-ness...

Ugh, in moving news...how hard is it to put screens on ****ing windows. I have 2 old cats, it's a second floor apartment...need screens or parachutes. Two weeks ago when i dropped my ridiculous deposit it was promised...right away. Now I have to go behind the handymans back to the landlord and i am starting out as a pain in the ass tenant. Between the bank(who is backing out on their end of the cash for keys deal) and this I cannot schedule a damned move. All minor quibblings because the place is tits and I am pretty sure my neighbors are already a little afraids of me and I am loving myself. All my fragile chachkies and dishes/pint glasses/beer collection have made the trip safely.

fire your IT guy and save a few bucks.

your new neighbors already scared of you? no wonder!

really, the window screen issues suck. hope things go smoothly from there on. I'd be pissed off about it too. how big is the apartment that you're moving into?

It would be fair to call it an executive single. Lots of closet space...big enough. My IT guy works cheap so if anyone is firing anyone. My downstairs neighbor is clearly the craZy plant lady so she kinda scares me a little bit too, eyes don't quite track right.

I think I meant to ask how big the apt building is, even in how many units there are. the more the units, the more likely the maint. guy is going to do **** all.

well...just for the sake of putting the cherry on top...8 hr move, complicated...almost $900 total. And the majority of delicates were handled by me and the kingsqueen(man she saved my ass). Woke up at 1 am and my day is finally winding down. Surrounded by a wilderness of boxes. SERIOUS. Have to move a metric ton of junk just to fart. But my girls(Clawde and Criss) in the twilight of their lives, seem remarkably happy and, you know what...so am I. Pretty sure that the crazy eyed plant lady downstairs is now my nemesis though. Man she is gonna hate hockey season.
