I'm SO glad I read this before I go to bed.
i saw a news story a long while back about a little boy who had a spider or two in his ear. he said he heard a crackling in there (as they moved around). blegh.
i've also heard about cockroaches in the ear. my husband's law school roommate did an internship representing disadvantaged people who basically lived in slums and said that one of the little boys had to have hot oil poured into his ear to kill or chase out a cockroach. after hearing that and then staying in a nature friendly (not my choice) inn in maui where they don't spray the spiders, roaches and other little critters that thrive in humid tropical weather, i spent the entire night slapping my ears afraid to death something would crawl in. i seriously saw little roaches running around the table tops and floors all night so it wasn't just my imagination.
Many years ago the wife and I were in Puerto Vallarta and our room must have had ten or more geckos in it. We called the front desk to complain and the guy on the other end asks us if we had seen any bugs or spiders in our room. When we replied no he offered to come down and collect the geckos but then we would have lots of bugs and spiders. We kept the geckos and now ask for rooms that are known to have plenty of geckos. Besides, after looking at them more closely they are pretty cool looking.
Why am I itchy all of a sudden?
this is a great solution. better than spraying. i've stayed in many hotels in vietnam. there were geckos aplenty and i rarely encountered many bugs in the room. the only time there were undesirable pests were when we stayed in some super questionable small town inns that barely had running water. even then, i had mosquito netting to enclose myself in.
