If It's as beautiful as John Ford's movie "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne,Maureen O'Hara, Berry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond, what a thrill it would be to go there. No advice from me except enjoy!!!
I would go to Ireland if there was a Maureen O'Hara there waiting for me.
But there isn't! cry:
Then again, I am no John Wayne either, so it all evens out. Oh, Orphy, would you ever win?
Anyways, if I were going to Dublin, I would seek out James Joyce statue, but my ideas of a good time are lame.

go to the whiskey distilleries and have some delicious whiskey. that's what i would do.
See lunchbox and taz have the best ideas. Apparently my wife is coming with me too, so I gotta find something to do for her that she'll enjoy. Her plans are to go hiking around the cottage we're staying in. I say "Well who's walking and carrying our stuff?" her answer is "You" and my answers "So who's walking around and carrying our stuff?"
I miss Ireland. Last time there was 2005.
There is pretty much scenery everywhere you go.
If you want to go south, take a ride on the Ring of Kerry. We rented a car and drove to stop along the way, but there are also buses I believe that do trips (it's long). Beautiful scenery.
There's a town down south called Killarney which was one of my favorites. Great natural parks, and a old town pasadena type feel with a bunch of bars/shops/eating joints. I highly recommend McSorley's for a quick pint and nighttime entertainment.
We did a short hike to Torc Waterfall while in Killarney. Not that strenuous, and again, great scenery all around.
If you want a party atmosphere in Dublin, can check out Temple Bar. But a warming, it gets crazy packed with lots of folks young and old. There are pubs all over. Try and see a traditional folk band play one night, or one of the many pub crawls.
