Funny that you mention Cal Poly SLO. I went to Cal Poly Pomona and I still (being as misguided as I am, haha) think my school is better.

But the city of San Luis Obispo is much nicer than Poormona. Not even close.

    Monterrey is really nice too.

And Santa Barbara, well, that's nice too, but everybody knows that.
My son is starting his 3rd year at Cal Poly SLO in September. He loves it up there. Great school, great town and such a beautiful drive from here in Thousand Oaks to get up there.

What is he majoring in? Just curious.

Honestly, there's a rivalry between SLO and Pomona, but it's all in good fun. Both are great schools and the best that CSU has to offer.

Yeah. One of my nieces wants to check out SLO. I applied and told her how much I liked it. Both really want to check out UCSB and UCSC. It'll be fun. The UCSC trip might not fit within their rules for the contest but we shall see.

btw, go SLUGS !!! SLUUUUUG LIFE !!!

    Haha, Banana Slugs! :P

I got one of my graduate degrees from San Jose State, which is not that far from Santa Cruz.

    And that's Sharks country!

    But still go Spartans!

Said football team won a bowl last year!

But anyhow, UCSC is also a good campus. I went there to visit and SC is a nice city too.

Dunno, ultimately went it comes to choosing schools it's good to visit the campus and decide based on whichever campus makes you comfortable.

I've actually contemplated applying to the University of Madison, Wisconsin for their PHD program. Dunno, it's a good school, but I would be intimidated to move there. It's so different from L.A.

He is majoring in Environmental Engineering. As someone who has been in the music business all my life, I don't really know where his science aptitude came from but he is loving going to school up there. He has always enjoyed and excelled at math, physics and chemistry.

I was thinking it would be Engineering. Both Cal Polytechs have really good Engineering programs. My pops is an Engineer (chemical). Me? Not so much, haha.

There's this theory that math skills skip a generation. I think it's true.

I was thinking about the weather there.

I've gone to the Midwest and visit my mom's family in NY, but only during the Summer. The Winter in those places is brutal, I mean it snows there, lol, that doesn't happen in Cali unless you go to the mountains.

I grew up in Boston and dealt with winter long enough before moving to L.A. in 1975. My son's mother grew up in St. Paul. I could never last a winter in Minnesota. Neither of us would ever consider going back to months of winter. We like visiting the snow at Mt. High, Big Bear or Mammoth. But knowing it's temporary and by choice makes it fun.
