I'm going to be a dad!
So I was over in Home Ice reading the saga that is Rob Blake. I had about 8 pages (40 posts per page) left to read. I love him! I hate him.....I don't ****ing know. I had to come over here for some reality.
The wife is just over 10 weeks pregnant. We had our first Dr's appointment today and they did an ultrasound.
***A little back story***
She was pregnant last December. But at 8 weeks the measurements weren't where they were supposed to be. We went back a week later and they did the ultrasound again and there was no heartbeat. Being that it was about a week before Christmas and we were traveling, we opted to do a D & C instead of letting nature take its course. I wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy. Being a man and sitting there while your wife is going through that experience is gut wrenching. Not being able to help her in that time just killed me. Anyway, fast forward, about the time she was about to take the pregnancy test I just had a gut feeling that she was preggers. Low and behold, two test later sure thing. But the excitement was a little reserved, which was a bummer.
Leading up to today's ultrasound we were quite anxious. The ultrasound went great. Things immediately were better. Then the heartbeat....WOW! Based on her cycle she was 10 weeks today. Based on measurements she's a little over 10 weeks. That puts us at a due date of Feb. 13th. I've never been so stinking excited in my life. We've told our families and are telling people as it comes up (why aren't you having a cocktail?.....). We're waiting two more weeks (end of first trimester) to make it known to most people. I've meet a few of you crazy bastards so its all good.
It really became REAL today. I can't stop looking at the ultrasound. If you can't tell, this is our first. Now, my mom just had her birthday and we were at my folks to celebrate. Mom and dad already knew by my middle bro and sister-in-law didn't. My wife likes to make cards for stuff like this. So I showed my sister in law the card my wife made for my parents. Blah blah blah I'm so happy. My brother stands up, gives me a hug and says, "that's great, when do you find out who the dad is?"
My dad says (laughing) "God dammit, you couldn't even give him 30 seconds could you?"
My brother, straight faced, "What did I say?"
Yep, that's my family. I would expect nothing but that from my brother. But, I just had to share. We're really excited. We aren't the religious type but we'll certainly accept any positive vibes and/or prayers.
<<drops the mic>>
Congratulations! Prayers for good health for your wife and child and peace and patience for you to help her through it. Then prayers for good rest as you can get it once your first is born.
Congrats!!! So happy for you and your wife. There's a lot of hard work and responsibility being a parent, but every bit is amazing.
Not trying to steal your thunder/hijack your thread, but my wife is pregnant with our 2nd child, and the due date....Feb 13th!! I wouldn't even mention my family in your thread if the due dates and timing weren't exact. Thought that was a cool coincidence. Anyways, congrats again and wishing the best of health to your fam!!
Had almost the exact same experience as you guys....but it was 17 years ago now! (and my birthday week, not Christmas) Tell your wife to try not to worry too much....everything will be OK this time. (says the person who called the doctor every week asking if she could come in to hear the heartbeat....) Our daughter is a very healthy 16 years old now.
Not hijacking at all. That's really cool. We both have little Kings fans in the oven.

Trying to keep her as comfortable as possible. She's not milking it at all. For whatever reason, I'm convinced we're having a girl.
I'm going to be a dad!
Congrats to you and your wife,KRC.
Congrats and best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy and birth.
