All ridicule and judgment of the child aside, the mother should needs to be judged for her actions. Not as it has to do with the child and her homework (although I'd like to give her a piece of my mind...), the mom needs to be shamed for airing her dirty laundry and embarrassing the child. The damage that she's doing to her child is far greater than the laugh that the child experienced in the classroom.

And why can't the class chuckle at the kid? If this kid needs motivation to get her work done, maybe this will be a thorn in her side and she'll do better.

But no. As a society we hand out participation trophies for ****ing everything and now this is what you get. You get kids who think everything should be handed to them. They don't understand that they have to do work for what they want. And if they don't do that they fail. If you fail in the classroom you should be shamed by your piers.

And don't start with that slippery slope BS. Our society is now an entire slippery slope about everything. We purpously do thousands of extra steps that are completly uncessary so that someone will be less likely to file a lawsuit. I guarantee that this tart of mom will file a lawsuit and the district will settle out of court.

The parent is the real problem, she doesn't know what work her child has assigned, or what she has failed to complete? Parenting FAIL.

There is no slippery slope here. You really need to ask why can't an adult lead a child's peer group to help alienate them for their shortcomings? An authority figure given the charge of educating a youth, should not use humiliation and/or intimidation on any child. Period. Let alone encourage other children to join in. Education FAIL. BTW, if you can can come up with a legitimate argument as to when it OK for an adult to humiliate a child, or encourage other children to do so, I'm all ears. (insert ducks fan joke here)

In the fail battle of the teacher and parent, the child loses.

Child grows up learning that it's OK to humiliate others, and that it's OK to buck responsibility. The cycle of FAIL continues.

LOL @ responses to my post.

    Absolute new age crap?
    **** off?

Well thought out. I know I'm impressed by your persuasive arguments to my opinion and value the insight you've provided.

Children will experience humiliation on their own. Part of adolescence and being human.

So lets air this all out..I don't think what the teacher did was a big deal by any means. Definitely not worth national media attention. So please don't take my post as me blowing a small matter out of proportion. A parent/teacher conference at best, was all the attention this should have deserved.

But, since it was brought up as a talking point on a message board, I stand by what I believe is an underlying issue in the situation. An adult given a role of authority and trust, picked on a kid, and made a game of letting other kids join in. There are so many other ways to motivate and educate.

Don't agree? well, I could come back with a well thought out retort like say, **** off, or your opinions are absolute archaic crap ways of thinking. I think I'll leave it knowing that I stand by my opinion and you're welcome to yours.

BTW, not trying to spoil the mood 'round these parts, I'm still on a euphoric rush from Kopi's OT breakaway last night. So Karma to everyone in the thread regardless of the topic! Go Kings Go!

When I was in high school...I rarely turned in homework...but aced every single test...including the pop quizzes... It drove the teachers NUTS... If I did turn in an assignment...my handwriting was so bad they actually told me to "type it next time"...IF they didn't faint outright...
