They stop you at the city limits and pat you down for weapons. If you don't have one, they give you one.

It all depends on the tide. Low tide is the time to go.

As a lifelong Santana resident I can pretty much say Santa Ana cops are the coolest in Orange County. The city itself isn't all that bad. Downtown has some excellent new restaurants and you can't better better Mexican food anywhere in OC.

There are some really nice neighborhoods and homes in Santa Ana. Don't get me wrong, there are dangerous gangs and seedy areas, just doesn't seem that bad to a guy that grew up in the Harbor Gateway.

Another greet gallery of art to check out. We all used to hang out at the Koo's Cafe @ 207 Broadway (now in Long Beach) which was (still is) a great place to get your art funk mojo fix.
Also, when I was a younger man, I was know to skateboard around the commercial buildings and streets with friends in Santa Ana after midnight. Some really good street skating spots in that city.

I hear ya. I guess it has to do with growing up in the city and driving to the seediest parts of town to buy beer when you're underage that'll do it to you.

There are parts of Santa Ana that you'd be surprised are even Santa Ana. There are nicer areas... Floral Park... And the area near Tustin Hills are both really nice area with expensive homes and decent neighborhoods...
I lived in Floral Park until I was 5 and moved to Orange.
