I worked at Chapter One downtown for two years. Getting out at 3 AM on Firday/Saturday nights wasn't too bad. Plenty of security and friendly cops. Only got mugged once!

Im back from SoCal! Here is the quick trip summary in case anyone is interested...

Day 1: Got into town, checked into Paradise Pier, and went to Downtown Disney. Checking out that huge Disney store at DD, and my 2 year decides to vomit on the floor. I figured she was just a bit too excited since she wasn't running a temp, and is NEVER sick, so I went ahead and showed up for my reservation at Tortilla Jo's. Kid vomits on my lap in the restaurant. Food to go. Kid is up vomiting all night. I got to watch the Fox11 morning news though, and that pregnant news anchor is gorgeous. I almost didn't mind being up that early in the morning.

Day 2: 2 year old makes a miraculous recovery. End up having a great day at California Adventure. Some guy at the park chirps at my Dad for wearing a Coyotes sweatshirt. I have no idea if he was a Ducks or Kings fan, but my Dad got a pretty good kick out of it. The Color show was cancelled due to the high winds. Get back to the hotel that night, and the 5 year old decides it's her turn to vomit all night. I, again, am awake to see that chick on the Fox11 news.

Day 3: The 5 year hasn't recovered yet. So we are stuck laying down at the hotel all morning while the wife, my parents, and the 2 year old do Disneyland. The 5 year old and I join them about noon. A bunch of the rides were shut down, and a restaurant we were hanging out by had to be evacuated due to a fire in the kitchen. I only had to catch vomit in my hand once during the day...not too bad. Wife begins getting a tummy ache around 7pm. And around 11pm, she is puking her guts out.

Day 4: Wife and 5 year old are still sick. I grab a few puke bags, throw them in the truck, and leave town. My kids have still never been to the beach, and I still have not seen a tide pool.

BTW, I know I should've quarantined my kids when I knew that had come down with something. But I had been planning this trip for a year, and I had spent way too much money on it to lock them all in the hotel room until they were better. I probably got some other people at the park sick, my apologies if it was any of you, but screw it, I couldn't see wasting all the money because of a little vomit.

See you again in a few years Disneyland.

haha, i remember wearing our kings gear to disney april-june 2012 and one time, the lady at the security line (where they look in your purse/bags) said something like "watching the games, huh?". i have no idea if she was a kings or ducks fan. either way, i think the park employees are trained to be neutral in these things, lol.

hope everyone is feeling better and you guys enjoyed the trip as much as possible. at least, if they did spread their stomach bug germs, it wasn't of the poop variety... or maybe it was and you're sparing us the more gruesome details...

Damn, sorry to hear about the ordeal, Wile. FWIW, I had that bug a while ago - earlier this year, I think. Thought it was food poisoning at first, but onyl one other person I know of ended up getting it - a co-worker. Be glad you didn't get it - it was a bitch. puking until I was empty, and then dry-heaving until I damn near turned inside out.

But, do come back -it's sooo worth it when everyone's healthy, and there's no kitchen fires...or high winds...or multiple ride closures. BTW, ride closures tend to happen a bit more in the off-season (summer being the peak season). Also, when you plan your next trip, give them a call and see if any planned ride closures have been determined for the time you plan to come out. They sometimes know them months in advance. Unplanned ones (Space Mountain has a tendency for "mechanical issues") obviously won't be known until they happen - but call the day before you leave to see if anything's just gone down and might be closed for any of the time you're there.

I take no responsibility for the Doan sickness, he was out sick before my kids were. Maybe he is the one to blame for infecting my family. And as Krussadams mentioned, it is brutal, but I have avoided it thus far. I've got 2 Christmas parties to attend this weekend, so I'm sure it will hit me any hour now.

I don't think the whole ride closure thing was planned. I was in line at Pirates ride for 30 minutes before they announced that everyone should reverse their line and exit the ride. It happened within 10 minutes of the fire and the neighboring restaurant, so they may have had something to do with one another.

I will be back soon, the drive was much easier than I had expected. Should probably make more trips out there for Ducks/Kings/Angels/Doyers games... and maybe the tide pools.
