The game is controlled in GA, but there are 42 states plus two territories that sell those tickets. Part of each dollar goes toward the national prize, but the rest stays in each individual state that sells it. In CA we are a pari-mutual state so there is a percentage set to each winning combination to pay out the players. Other states have a set % for each game. Approximately 33% of each dollar goes to schools in CA, approx 55% goes to pay out prizes, about 6-8% pays out commissions to our retailers. About 6% pays for everything else we do, from printing to advertising to paying our staff. Overall, the lottery accounts for about 2% of the schools overall budget for each year, 98% comes from your property taxes. I think my math is pretty close. Bottom line is that about 94 cents of every dollar goes back to the community in some form. schools, players, retailers

two years ago the rules for paying out players changed, AB142 was passed to make our lottery more competitive with other states. we still lack in over % of retailers to people living a zip code, we'll be looking to gain another 4,000 retailers over the next few years to make us get up to the national average.

It sure sounds that way, but we are still waiting for all the states to report, its like an election, some computers work faster than others, we were 30 minutes late because of all the tickets that were sold in CA

Not really, I'm working on getting the lottery back in to the Stapler, our new marketing company stopped all of our sports marketing last year, so we lost our vending machines inside the Stapler. As you watch the games on TV, you can see where our money went to, annoying the heck out of you each period. We have our new CA Black advertising starting on April 2nd. I hope to get those vending machines back for next season, so you can buy your tickets at each Kings game.
