I now decided that if I win the lottery, I will buy a big house, and paint it purple with blotches of yellow! :D

    But I digress.

What is not so remarkable as the fact of the painting per se, or even the manner in which it was accomplished, but rather the end result. Now, houses are generally painted in a variety of colors. Browns are quite popular, generally. Earth tones. The occaisonal burnt orange... sienna... a lovely shade of blue every now and again. Generally agreeable colors, all.

My neighbor's house looks like a banana lost a fight with a clown.

This paint job is truly inescapable. No matter where you are on the street, or what you may be looking at, your attention is inevitably drawn back to this gut-churning monstrosity. We have no homeowner's association, so there's really nobody to complain to. I don't think there's actually any law that says you're not allowed to paint your suburban tract home like a Vietnamese whorehouse... it's a big problem, though. You want to see people really, truly angry? Mess with their property values. It's not even the glare of a thousand burning lollipops emanating from the house - it's what a color schema like that says about the owner. Would you want to live next to a whack-job like that? Neither would anybody who would ever consider buying a house in our nieghborhood, ever again.

What the hell can be done, short of a molotov cocktail? Is there any remediation for something like this? Does anyone have experience with a neighbor like this?

Will you hire an artist to paint the purplebeard logo on the house too?

Might just have to do it myself just to save money. Psh! Winning the lottery won't make me less of a cheapskate!

    Found it !!!

This is what I never, EVER got. What does anyone care about what their neighbors do ? This is America. Unless you pay their mortgage, you should have no say. Unless they are burying babies or engaging in illegal cockfighting, whats the harm ? If anything, it brings some life to the neighborhood. Here in the States, people paint their houses bland colors. I get confused which house is which. At least you'll know where you live when you stagger home. (I will note, as anyone who has played pick-up with me knows, I like to wear mirame-a-huevo colors)

On top of that, you can clown them on the paint job. That's the American way.

Dunno, SuperCalo, he said Vietnamese whorehouse. What you posted looks more south of the border.

    Better ?

I can see why living next to a house that looks like a whorehouse may be an inconvenience. All those people taking up street parking wondering when in a good time to stop by for a look inside and little kids trying to sell you stuff.

this. there's no character to a neighborhood where all the houses are the same color. we live in a tract with cape cod style homes and every house is a different color. most of them are blues, greens, greys, yellows and whites. there's a couple ugly ones but i don't think it really screws up the neighborhood and then there are beige ones that are probably the most boring looking ones on the block.

my in-laws are on the HOA board of their neighborhood and some of the rules they enforce are so stupid, i'm glad i don't have to put up with that b.s.
