Its a sad situation up there right now. My best friend lives in Toms River.
Back in the 90's I was in the Coast Guard Stationed at both Governors Island, NY and at Sta Manasquan Inlet. I lived in Seaside Heights and my wife worked in Brick. My mother in law lives in Mantoloking, my brother in law lives in Absecon, my uncle lives in Point Pleasant. Those towns are just about gone now. :(
Los Angeles,
California,
Kardashians,
Fontucky,
"The government needs to give me (blank)!"
"Pffft! The Earthquake back in 19XX was way worse than Sandy!"
Okay, now that that's out of the way and you realize there is more to the country than SoCal, Text the word "REDCROSS" to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief for Sandy victims.
Luckily I only live 5 hours from Jersey and can physically help. I have a plethora of work to do on my own property from damage, BUT I'm leaving in a few hours with 2 of my own personal Generators, chainsaw, extension cords, 120 gallons of petrol I paid for, a 300 gallon Potable Water Mule, 3 bags of clothes my family and neighbors donated, 200 MRE's my employer (DPW for Army CASCOM, Fort Lee, Va.) donated and use of my help for 3 days. I did it for Katrina and I'm doing it for Sandy. Although you may not be lucky enough to do anything physically, YOU damn sure can text a word and spare $10 bones. Its not like you're gonna spend it on a beer at Staples.
They may not live next door to you and speak in the same dialect BUT THEY ARE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS! These are the SAME people that will be donating to YOU when YOUR disaster occurs.

Kings Care Foundation is matching donations made by Kings fans through a link on their website.
https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1319171-ElUmjrTanw
100% of the donations collected through this link will be donated to the American Red Cross's Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts. The Kings Care Foundation will match all donations made through this link by November 15th.
You can also buy Bailey's Buddies and your money will go to the Red Cross and Kings Care will match it. The stuff in the Bailey's Buddies box is pretty awesome too.
Good to hear Dana. Thanks a bunch! Im surprised I didnt see any of that in my FB News Feed. I must have missed it.
See that "I need to GET something to GIVE..." crowd? Now you have ZERO excuse to not do your part!
It sickens me to no end when I read "New York thinks its the center of the Universe again." and "Its just New Jersey, who cares." mixed in with a "What about the people in Haiti?" in some posts and shoutbox statements. Just makes me physically ill. These ARE YOUR PEOPLE! Whether you know it or not, these people are YOUR Family. Unbeknownst to you, these very well could be your Aunties and Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and cousins. They aren't some foreign tribe in a 3rd world Country. Would you leave the side of a injured, cold and homeless family member so you can run off and take care of a total stranger somewhere else? I would hope not. Now get off your pedestals and do something other than using your ignorance and denial to justify you turning of your back on these people! Don't think to yourself you shouldn't do anything because you dont think they need it or because its "Just New Jersey" or "NYC is trying to be the Center of the Universe again". Sheesh. Like I said above, these are the SAME people that will be taking care of you when your time comes. Dont F*** with Karma!
Remember, anything is better than nothing. A single dollar or $100. Doesn't matter at all.
Thanks to all that have already done their duty.
I just delivered a truck load of generators to Cabela's in Hamburg, PA from LA. Initially I was supposed to deliver in Hartford, CT but got routed to PA because it was closer to NJ. What I saw there made me so ****ing pissed but I couldn't do anything. There were people coming from NY/NJ with multiple ID's and purchasing 4-6 generators to take back and sell at a higher price. Just ****ing pathetic...
thanks for this. i wanted to find a place to donate without texting and this sounds like the perfect link. i missed this if they posted it in their various social media outlets as well. hrm...
i can't believe people are saying "it's just NYC/NJ"... i'd hate for something crummy to happen here and have people refrain from helping because "it's just CA or LA" followed by some clichéd reason why CA/socal/LA sucks and doesn't deserve the help.
Yeah lunchie, it both boggles and hurts my brain to think there are people out there that think this way. It’s just a sad state of spiritual being if you ask me. I won’t bust out the posters that said these things...Im sure they know who they are and will need to live with that piss poor stance.
Just to bring to everyone's attention, If you give directly to the ARC, the money is immediately distributed "do ut des" meaning the rations are already there, you are donating to guarantee the recoup of the funds allocated by ARC. If you donate via a third party AND/OR through a "Matching Funds" type entity such as Kings Care, they usually hold the fund age until a set deadline date and won’t turn over the funds until that date is reached. That DOES NOT hold up the victims getting food, water or clothes...It holds up the American Red Cross being reimbursed for their expenses. That’s all.
The ARC set up a Sandy Donation Booth in the parking lot of my Voting Station this morning. I didn’t have any cash on me but I did empty the change in my ashtray into the pot. Prolly only $8-$10 in loose change but Everything Counts in Large Amounts.![]()
ya, i was also considering donating straight through ARC, but i do like how kingscare is matching. i know a site i shop from was gonna take donations until nov 15th and will also match so i wonder if they'll send the money over shortly after that deadline. i can't donate until the end of the week though when my budget allows for it so i'll make up my mind then. btw, nice DM reference, ha.
