    Strength without Insolence,

And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery

Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
    BOATSWAIN, a DOG
Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803,
And died at Newstead, Nov 18th, 1808.

I have been fortunate in my life to of visited Newstead twice and would like to share a brief little history with you all.
The first time as a young lad out with a friend and his family. The second on a visit back to England with my wife for my moms 80th birthday in 2005.

It is called Newstead Abby, the Abby was built in the 13th century. Henry VIII closed the churches in the 16th century because they wouldn't give him a divorce, hence the phrase "Off with her head", can't do that today. Lord Byron 1st bought the property(about 1540 as I remember...no.. I wasn't there), had the Abby taken apart, except for the front main wall and used the bricks to build his home. The photo below shows it in 2005, when I first saw it the first time in the '60s the stained glass windows were intact, they were very impressive. The grounds are magnificent.
The Byron family lived there on and off for the next couple hundred years, Lord Byron the 6th, the poet stayed there in his younger years, after Boatswain passed he moved to Geneva, which is where my wife and I had just come from. His house is on the Lake, next to the United Nations enclave. I think I have a photo of that too but I'll have to go find some cd's..

Have more photos if anybody is interested..
