A couple of blocks from me today my neighbor Pat, 92, was a Navigator/Bombardier on Lancaster's. Great old guy with lots of stories, I love to hear him tell them. He grew up head of the household, family lived in the attics of London, worked on the railroads, volunteered to fight in '38. Passed every navigation test they threw at him 100%. Was in from day 1 until the end.
He told me one day they were running out of petrol so they had to land at a small airfield to refuel but were not allowed to leave the airplane. After a while they were told to spend the night in the local barracks so the airfield MP came over to escort them away, as they approached some buildings the MP ordered Eyes Right. Pat said he was thinking "who the hell are you to tell ME what to do" so I looked left. Well I never, In my wildest dreams that thing I saw will never get off the ground. Doesn't even have a propeller.....

He's a suborn old guy, corrects me every time I misspeak.....jus love him.

The Gloster Meteor was built at Meir Aerodrome in my hometown of Stoke on Trent, my grandfather worked on it during the war years.

Heard the story about Harold Jellicoe Percival before his funeral and how he did not have anyclose relatives and how they requested people to attend to pay him respect. When I heard the followup about how many people came I, uh, got dust in my eyes.

Sorta restored my faith in humanity.

Yup, life can be a whole hell of a lot better when you stay away from political message boards and start realizing that most people are good, kind hearted, human beings.
