You cant "own" a government issued weapon unless its been tagged, surveyed and sent to DRMO for general sale...and that aint gonna happen with a historic type pieces or any modern weaponry, ftm. It either goes to another member/soldier, a museum, or to the crucible. Good story though. Seems to be more about the configuration than the actual weapon itself.
