I have a good friend who is a bit of a Scotch snob and he readily admits it. Truth be told he is a great guy in general and, as much as the rest of us hate to admit it, is really is spot in when it comes to Scotch. And to boot he is great when sharing his good stuff, he often brings 18 and 21 years to parties and insists that everyone try them. It is not uncommon for him to leave unfinshed bottles at whose house is hosting. He left a 80% full Glenlivit Archive 21 at my place a few weeks back. I told him he had to take it "Dude, you can't leave that here, I wouldn't feel right about it!" He said "Nope! I got something else I wanna try, keep it, enjoy!"
But I, at times, like to do things that drive him crazy. So a while back me and another friend were enjoying a MaCallen 15. My friend comments how good it is and wonders if would Richard, our scotch friend, likes it. I point out that Richard's go to scotch is the Springbank 21 and knowing him he would not admit to the Mac 15 being good just to give us a hard time.
But then an idea hits me: put him to the test.
So I text a pic of the MAC 15 to Richard. He texts back "Hey, not to shabby. But its not....... (fill in the name of some other really expensive Scotch.)
I then texted a pic of a scotch glass with ice next to a Coke. "You would not dare!" He texts back.
Next a pic of me pouring the Mac and the Coke into the ice filled glass. "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
Then a pic of my friend and myself "enjoying" our "Mac15 & Cokes". "Sacrilege! The horror! I don't even know you two anymore!"
He was right of course, it tasted weird, and it was a waste of great Scotch but getting his goat was cool.
