Teenage Canucks Fan And Brain Tumor Survivor Slapped In Head At Sharks Game | ThePostGame

Maggie Herger, 16, wore her Vancouver Canucks shirt to Wednesday's game in San Jose against the Sharks, four years after being treated for a brain tumor. The San Jose Mercury News reports the native of Canada was heckled throughout the game by Bay Area fans before she was finally hit in the head by an older woman.

The sad part is this is a totally chicken**** Northern california holier than though maneuver. "Oh I slapped her on the head by accident" my ass. I'm sure she thinks she was totally justified even after doing it. Just a **** thing to do.

people need to wake up and realize they are not on the team and have no relationship with the team other than being a fan of the team.

Why does the fact that she's a tumor patient even play into it? One might say, "Hell...bitch beat cancer. A whop on the head ain't nothin!"

But seriously. Who the **** cares that she was a brain tumor survivor? Fact is, getting whopped on the head by a person with malicious intent is assault, whether you're a brain tumor survivor or not. The fact that she had a tumor removed FOUR YEARS prior to the incident would play very little role in whether or not she gets whopped in the head for being (more probably than not) a mouthy 'Nucks fan by a fan of the opposing team who has no self control.

That she was whopped in the head is wrong, unless she physically provoked said whopping. If she whopped someone first, it's on like D.K. whether she's a former tumor patient or not.

The physical contact is a no-no, no matter how you look at it. But to be traumatized by heckling by the other team's fans is a bit much. Even more ridiculous, to make it sound like it's a boorish American thing that would never happen in Canada. How is anyone supposed to know this girl had surgery 4 years ago for a benign tumor? Does it say so on the back of her shirt? Looking at her picture in the article, I can't see anything that suggests she's anything but a normal teenager. Can anyone?

Why was her first NHL game rooting for her favorite team an away game hundreds of miles away? Did the thought ever occur to the family to attend a game in Vancouver? If they're afraid of nasty Americans, maybe they should take in a game in Toronto or Montreal and enjoy the hospitality of their fellow countrymen. Also, is it a new form of therapy to show people pictures of another person who was nearly beaten to death to make them feel better? What's with that paramedic?
