Thanksgiving/Black Friday in LA area?

I have several paid flight passes that expire in December. Plan A was to use them for the Cup Banner Raising last October. Oh, wait... :(

So instead of losing them (or paying to extend them), I was thinking of doing a short trip for Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping/vacation in LA? Good idea? Bad idea? I'm guessing all the tourist things like Studio Tours are on break?

We spent Thanksgiving last year in Phoenix, and since we didn't need 10 of those big screen TVs that people line-up for on Wednesday, we had a good couple of days of shopping Friday/Sat. But LA is a tad larger than PHX. :) Will it be crowd-a-geddon everywhere?

Since we've been there so many times, we usually stay all over the place (anywhere from Pasadena to Anaheim) and drive, so that's not an issue.
