In most cases you don't need to do a rafter upgrade unless they are really old. More times than not a if anything has to be redone its the comp on the roof. Of all the jobs that I've been on in the year I'm been w/ my company I've only done two rafter upgrades before an installation. The racking system and modules really aren't that heavy. And generally, we space our footing 4' OC. We're allowed to do 6' OC some times but that does put more stress on the rafters that are lagged into. It all depends.

One great thing about solar in the Valley is that simply by installing the modules it will cool the house/attic down a bit.
I sent you a PM. But the reroof or rafter upgrade would/could/should be done by us honestly. We (the installers) would do the rafter upgrade, its usually really easy. Now if the comp needs to be redone, we have a roofing company do that. And usually, the reroofing can be put into the lease agreement so you don't get stuck w/ a huge bill up front. So, my company does lease the systems. You can buy it outright if you want but you won't receive all the extra services provided if you buy it outright.
