Vancouver trip: into enemy territory!

Just got back from my Van/Alaska trip and I have to say: put Alaska on your bucket list!

But first things first, my week in Vancouver was great. A nice city and believe it or not the people are very nice. Wore my Kings gear quite a bit in Vancouver and never got a bad response, except good naturedly. Everyone who said anything was cool about it and offered congrats on a great Cup run. Same for my day walking around Victoria, which by the is also just a beautiful city. Saw a couple of fellow Kings fans on the cruise and even in Skagway a couple of people noticed my Kings hat and chatted hockey. In Seattle, where my trip started and ended, a Devils fan gave his congrats and a kid on the street yelled "Go Kings!" on the street.

It is good to be Kings fan these days.

Now on to Alaska: it was awesome! Now on the cruise we only got two days in the ports, Juneau and Skagway, and the other four are at sea, but still, it was great.

At Juneau went to a dog musher camp and it was pretty damn cool. Outside of town there is a camp that has dogs used for dogsledding. They had dog teams hooked to wheeled sleds that carried six people plus the driver. I thought "Now way can these dogs pull this big sled/cart with all this people!" I was wrong. Those dogs hauled ass. What a ride! And afterward the driver said we could walk up and pet the dogs and they were very nice and well behaved dogs. Then we were shown the sleds and equipment for racing and told that many of the dogs in the camp are veterens of countless races including the Idirod. It was explained that the camp is sort of like training camp for the dogs, the heavier sleds bulk up the dogs to prepare them for the winter races and the tourists that visit the camp help the dogs get used to people. Lastly we got see and play with the camp puppies, man I wanted to take one home! This excursion was really cool and kids jut loved it.

Skagway was great little small town and did some rock-climbing and zip lining in a beautiful location outside town. It was exhausting but a blast. Then hit a pub and had some great brew.

The ship went up the Tracy Arm Fjord and that was a nice trip. It is August and there was small iceburgs, a huge glacier and it was pretty cold. Very cool.

So, like I said, put Alaska on your bucket list. The cruise is great, but I thinking flying up there and spending more time on land and seeing the sights would be even better.

Great Asian food though, almost as good as the one in Cali. ;)

I just spent 7 days in Cabo San Lucas. It seemed like everyone there was from Vancouver... I got a lot of comments on my Kings hat and shirts. 99.9% of the comments were compliments on the Kings impressive Cup run! Only once did two teen aged kids make snotty remarks and then (a few days later) actually apologized for them! They were both a little drunk and obviously still a little bitter...Most of the fans are convinced that the Canucks are pretty much doomed and "built for the regular season, not the playoffs." It was interesting talking with them, they were very kind and polite. It was fun and interesting to hear their point of view.

Just got back from an 8 day cruise to Alaska, departing from Vancouver. Hardly anyone noticed our Kings Jerseys on Sat the 8th, but a Canadian Customs guy mentioned we had balls wearing the SCC golf shirt and my wife had on her Kings baseball jersey this morning. Here's the kicker. Going through U.S. Customs about 20 mins later, the agent there asked us why the "Kings" weren't happy in Sacramento??? Duh...He looked at me like "WTF" when I said we won't know if there will be a season or not until midnight Sat. Oh well
