I've dealt with this most of my adult life. Recently, I've been battling acute Achilles tendonosis in both ankles, which I'm told by my podiatrist and physical therapist is directly related to my plantar fascitis. I've had twelve sessions of PT which included being subjected to the Graston Technique (translated: ohmygodpainful), extreme stretching, and electrically-administered transdermal anti-inflammatory meds. None of this **** is fun, yo.
But the best thing I've found that has helped the most I think is a rocker board for stretching the calf, Achilles, and plantar fascia.
Thera-band makes the one I bought.
