Wonder what brand you had? I bought those when my wife was the manager of the KC store in Waikiki back in 97-98 before he douched out with the "Reaction" crap. They took FOREVER to break in and were BRUTAL out of the box width wise. The leather was so freak'n thick and wouldn't relax. I tried every snake oil on the market until I found some boot salve (cant remember the name) that did the trick. Once they relaxed they were and still are the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. I've already had them re-soled.

I contemplated sending him the 4 various pairs I still hold on to. He also does Doc's and old, old Black Buffalino too. Classics!

with the whole kenneth cole reaction thing, ya, it does suck when quality designers make off shoot brands to reach a wider base. quality is most oftentimes CRAP and it kind of just sullies the brand. i'm usually brand loyal as well though. if it's consistently good quality, why go/buy anywhere else?
as for the groundhogs, i don't doubt you've tried everything. with a large property like it sounds like you have, i'm sure it's much harder to contain. my parents have their backyard, the greenbelt behind it and since their house is a corner lot, a long strip of grass along one side of their house and THAT was a headache for them. anything more than that and the pest being larger, i'm sure the tunnels exponentiate. best of luck with the gun, haha.
btw, did you ever notice if they came out on groundhog's day? lol.

I was lucky enough to meet and have dinner with Kenneth a few times back then. Really, really nice guy. Very quiet. He was very hands on with his managers and very concerned with the "image" of KC and his stores. I got the impression he didn't want to do the Reaction thing because he knew it would somewhat tarnish his brand. Well, it seems the shareholders decided otherwise and now his brand and name have been watered down. Other than the Monk Straps, I dont think I own any KC stuff anymore and I had a TON of it 10+ years ago. I might have a leather jacket still. If I do, I should probably ebay it or sell it at a local consignment shop. I dunno.
I'll have to wait till spring for the groundhogs. They're deep asleep now. I dont know if they pop their heads out on the same day Puxy Phil does. lol I usually see them munching on my Hostas around mid May. I think Pux does his thing in Feb. I'll have to look around next time. lol
Edit: I still have a KC leather coat and it fits! lol! Im surprised it does 14 years later. Its in near mint condition too. My wife says it still a very current, design and material wise. That and it being basic fashion knowledge that black leather really doesn't go out...unless it has shoulder pads, lol. I'll prolly keep it. It doesn't feel very warm though...not like a Shearling with a Alpaca lining...lol:
