Back about half way in the thread you'll find a bunch of posts by me (and others) on barbecues, including some pretty detailed posts by me regarding the XL Big Green Egg that I've owned for almost two years.

Any questions you have that aren't answered by the previous posts in this thread, shoot my a PM. Hell, I'll even let you come over. We'll fire mine up and I'll check you out on the operation of the thing. You'll leave with a thorough understanding of how it works and a full belly.

Yes, they had figured out how to open the linen closet and sleep on the clean towels.

    Wahooo!! X3 Multigun is tomorrow!!!

I look forward to this every month!!

    My gear:

LWRC M6A2 rifle w/Burris XTR 1-4x24 lit-reticle BDC scope. The rifle is box-stock, and shoots like a dream. If you're thinking of getting an AR, this is one of the best gas-piston operated guns out there.
Glock 17,23,21 (depending upon which I have the most ammo for that weekend). Soon to add a Taran Tactical Innovations custom Glock 35RTG to the mix as my regular IPSC/3gun sidearm choice. I pick it up in a week!
Bennelli M2 Tactical w/8+1 mag tube.

I've been thinking of getting a pump action shotgun and a 9mm for home protection. Any suggestions? I used to go hunting with my grandpa when I was 8 or 9 so I have some familiarity with firearms, but I've been away from them for 30 years and need some direction. Any suggestions?

On the pump shotty that won't break the bank and you can get tons of aftermarket parts for get either a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. You could pay more for other brands but these 2 won't let you down. On the 9mm front that is really going to come down to what feels good in your hand and what fits in your budget. I don't care for Glocks because my hand is on the smaller side, so I opted for an XDM in OD Green. It feels even better to me than my original XD. Go out and rent some guns and see what you like.

this is a great home protector, but not much good for anything else.

Semi Automatic Shotgun | SRM Arms

for hand guns, I defer to subhuman. go to a range and rent/try serveral out. you may need to compromise if your wife/girl friend my want to use it too. And for goodness sake, take a gun safety course and practice regularly with your weapons. If I remember right, indoor ranges are hard to come by in the SGV or SFV. , but if burro canyon is still open up in the San Gabriels near East Fork Rd. It was a fair priced out door range to shoot your own weapons.

After you've made your shot gun/ hand gun selection, I would suggest going to cheaper than dirt .com. they can help you and walk you through all BS you'll have to go through in California, and probably have the best prices bar none.

daxx or anyone else. I've found that a lot of shooters, for what ever reason, seem to treat new shooters like idiots. This is wrong. They should be helping you out and encouraging you. I've even found owners/employees at gun stores treat a first time buyer, like they where the scum of the earth. Find a shop that will help you all they can. You can spend your money anywhere, remind them of that. The same goes for ranges. There are a lot of snobs there too. Don't get discouraged. Enjoy this, don't break the bank.

Just practice shooting it out the window on the Pasadena Freeway. No one in Highland Park/Lincoln Heights will pay attention to the gunshots.
