I need a car.
I'm thinking a good way to go is to buy a previously leased car.
Usually one previous driver, low miles, often kept in shape and maintained, etc.
How does one go about buying a previously leased car?

The dealer takes it in on trade and will usually be a certified pre owned vehicle. The dealer knows what was a lease return and what was a straight trade or bought at auction. The hard part is getting them to tell you.
You can always buy one from a private party as well if you know anyone getting ready to turn it back in
When I return my leased cars, the dealer always sold them, at least that's how it is with Subarus.
One thing that I noticed when I was looking for a used car is that Cars.com has some cars have a CarFax that you can see without being charged. It will tell you how many owners it had as well as the maintenance records.
Other cars on that site won't have a report unless you pay a fee. I don't know what the difference is on those.
Also, most if not all good dealers will have free CarFax reports on their websites. In general, if you look at the report under "previous owners" it will tell you if it was Lease, Sold at auction as a lease, Trade in, etc.
I bought my 2003 Ram that was a lease. Best damn vehicle I've ever owned. It just happened to be on the lot in Norco, got a great deal as I found the original window sticker in the glove box on the test drive. I can't help you on how to locate one. I got the truck when it was 14 months old, they asked 38k I showed them the sticker for 32K, offered them 29k cash, they fiddled ****ed around telling me this and that, and finally accepted my offer.
I know it is hard for most of you to do, but cash is bank. I've never had a car loan.
Agree X-man. I ALWAYS pay cash. My FX4 took me 15 months to find. I crused many a lot and many a eBay listing until I found it. $31k for a 2011, 12k mile, $56k truck. Dude put a dual Edelbrock exhaust/header kit, kn intake, edge cts tuner, and a $3k Ranch cover on it. I basically raped him. But I gave him exactly what he asked. Sucks when you have twins going to college at the same time...
