They usually use it at a gas station first to see if it works then go on a spending spree at Walmart.

Had my credit card compromised, they tried to use it to make a purchase in France for $1000. Fortunately my bank is extra cautious about these things, I had previously been unable to make purchases a few times because they thought some purchases I made could have been identity theft. I was ****ing annoyed by those instances but very grateful that when someone actually stole my credit card info it raised red flags and they were able to settle it very quickly.

It wasn't Galveston, was it? That's where mine was used. Do you actually still have the credit card? If so, you got nailed by a skimmer. Probably at a gas station. Creeps.

i had mine used up in the boonies of alberta or saskatchewan, i can't remember which one, a couple years ago. i still had my card, but they were able to use it in a couple of convenience stores unique to the region and charge around $500 to my account. i never used it at a gas station. i have some ideas on how the credit info was attained, but to this day, i can't be entirely sure. i just reported it to the local police in case i needed to refer to a police report in the future and then amex took the charges off. so weird, they'll call whenever they suspect fraudulent activity but somehow charges being rung up in a convenience store in rural canada on the same day as charges in various SoCal stores that i habitually frequent didn't send off a red flag.

I have no idea, all I know is that is was somewhere in France. I still have the card. I've had to change my card 3 times, once because of scammers, once when playstation network got hacked, and once when I got assaulted by a group of muggers. ****ing scumbags.

One instance where credit cards are great. If its fraud on your credit card its AMEX's money and they want it. If its your debit card its your money and your back can take their sweet time b/c its your money.

    Sucks Beer... I feel ya.

Happened to me last year around this time. Someone got a hold of my debit card number and spent over $800 at Gas Stations all around Southern California in one day. Each time, the person spent exactly $99.

People who do crap like that deserve to get shot right on the spot. I don't care what anyone says... we don't need a-holes like them in this world.

I've had two cards compromised. Both after using them at Fry's Electronics. CC Co took care of the whole thing, but it does suck. They spent just less than $400.00 each on several purchases to avoid detection

TVs, computers, iPods, iPads. It wouldn't be that difficult for a thief to buy iPads or laptops, sell them brand new for like $50 less on CraigsList and pocket the cash.
