Your first hockey thought
As I sit here eating my Cheetos while reading about the Gretzky ripple trade to the kings article on THN, I get taken back to 1991 when I saw my first hockey game between the Longs and a bunch of ****, I later found out they were the Canadiens. Before hockey I was a huge basketball fan, growing up watching the Bird vs Magic rivalry, but the speed and intensity of hockey hooked me right off the bat.
I was t even looking for hockey mind you, I was looking for cartoons, my dad who had control of the controller turned it to some channel and the game was on while he went to the bathroom. Intrigued by the game, I stole the remote and hid it so he couldn't change the channel after he went wee wee.
He sat down, looked around, looked at me, looked at the tv, looked at me again, thought of 68 ways to kill me, thought about calling me a little ****, then decided to just sit and watch.
Of course me being the cute little troll tyke I was/am, I asked questions about the game. My dad knew little of thesport other than "Gretzky is the best", which he later, after think about choking me with a lava lamp, told me. Later on, the question I asked my father after he told me about Gretzky was "Does he lead the league in steals?" And he said "Um...yes"
For the longest time after I learned about hockey, I called myself a blithering idiot, now along with the question about, I called myself a blithering idiot who knows Richard about hockey. Then after more research, beer, stuff, I know know about takeaways and giveaways.
What's one of your first hockey memories?
