    Default adding karma UX suggestion

i don't know how much you can customize this forum (i'm assuming it's possible) but for me personally, it's a little combersome to add karma to users. I have to click on the badge, then click the add button, then i have to click OK on the alert window that pops up. I was thinking maybe we can reduce the amount of clicks in that process to make it less tedious?

    1) hover over badge instead of click, then karma window would stay activated until they hover off (with a delay maybe) or just if they click off the window (or hit OK or cancel of course).

    2) instead of a alert window once the user has added karma, what about a div layer where the karma badge is that is either green or red depending on the karma that has been added as an alert?

doing this would do away with 2 clicks and i don't know about everyone else, but i'm pretty lazy and hate clicking so this might help with getting more people add karma, especially now that we're doing it in the vbookie threads!

While that's an excellent idea, I love the fact that you have to click a few extra times to give karma. This is why I enjoy having the "Like" button as well. If you like the post, then click on the "Like" button. If you think that post really deserves the karma, then you shouldn't mind having to click an few extra times.

I really do like your idea of the green or red karma alert.

normally i agree, but since we're all doing this 'give everyone karma in the vbookie thread." it made me realize how tedious it actually is to add karma. theres also been times where i'll just hit like because frankly i'm too damn lazy to go through the whole rigamarole of adding karma.
i could deal with 2 clicks, but i think at the very least the alert window could go away or turn into a simple alert like i put in the pic

Of course the forum CAN be customized. vBulletin is very flexible. The question is; is the benefit worth the time/cost of a developer adding the mods to the code?

This would be pretty straightforward, probably using jQuery/AJAX to modify the existing php and mySQL updates. Not overly complicated for a competent developer, but this would have to be written as a vBulletin plugin, as I'm sure changing the core code and making updates hard to perform would be out of the question.

So...anyone looking to hire a developer to write a vBulletin plugin??

I am willing to click as many times as I have to give Mitchrock the negative karma he deserves!

So true RR, "You must spread some Karma around before giving it to rinkrat again."
