    2/5
Manchester 4 at Albany 0 WIN

"Our game tonight was solid,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “Again, our penalty kill was outstanding. ‘Jonesy’ helped us weather the storm and some pretty passing plays on our power play set up some great goals.”

“The guys capitalized on our chances and all four lines contributed. Our puck movement was good and we made smart decisions on both sides of the puck,” explained Morris. “Three out of four points isn’t a bad weekend on the road.”

    2/9
Hershey 2 at Manchester 1 SO loss

“We had a lot of chances,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following Wednesday night’s defeat at the hands of Hershey. “When you go up 4-on-3 in overtime and you get the chances that we had, you’ve got to score. We hit a post or two [on offense], and that one against ‘Zats’ squeaked right passed the post.”

“I think we’ve grown since the last time we’ve seen them,” said Morris. “It was a squandered opportunity [to win].”

Zatkoff is getting back on his game. GAA is back down below 3.00 and Save % is over .900 again. Good news for the Monarchs as they win tonight and stay in 1st place in their division.

Sure looks like Voynov is becoming a beast!

“We need to stretch the net or get soccer nets,” joked Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following Friday night’s defeat. “We have trouble putting it in the net. Credit (goaltender Jhonas) Enroth with a strong effort.”

“From the look of the replays, we had a yawning net – that would have been a huge momentum shift,” said Morris in reference to the goal that was waved off during the middle of the third period. “We ultimately worked hard, but we just weren’t smart about things.

“It’s a disheartening loss, but we’ve got a lot of hockey to play.”

Our net presence was pretty obvious,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following Saturday night’s victory. “When you score in bunches like that it’s a lot of fun.”

“Obviously the puck was bouncing our way when yesterday, it was tough to get pucks past (Portland goaltender Jhonas) Enroth,” reflected Morris.

“Tonight we made a firm commitment to get to the net, and we did.”

Manchester 4 at Springfield 5 OT

Tonight’s overtime loss was an emotional roller coaster,” explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “Offensively, we might have played one of our best games. There were about three highlight reel goals and our execution was stellar.

“After a strong first period, we found ourselves down by two goals. We rallied in the second period to go ahead but squandered it. We had several great chances in the third and in overtime but a rocket from the point shot off the post and eluded (Martin) Jonesy who was screened in front. He played well in relief. We came ready to play but the few mistakes we made were very costly ones. We are pleased with the effort but we need everyone ready to play.”

    2/19
    Portland 4 at Manchester 5

“When the opponent has a short bench, their better players are playing a lot – it was a test for us,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “The penalties mounted and they were right back in the game. When we extended the lead [in the third period], we got caught napping.”

“We did beat a good team and we have to take a lot of positives out of it,” said Morris.

    2/20
    Manchester 2 at Bridgeport 4

"The consensus among our staff is that our team wanted this game to be easy,” explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following the loss. “In the end, Bridgeport played harder, made plays, and executed.”

“Today’s lineup was the most talented lineup we fielded this season, but there needs to be an understanding that winning isn’t about the prettiest pass and risky decisions,” said Morris. “Instead, it’s about grit, determination, and sacrifice for the sale of our hockey team. This team plays best when we execute with structure and avoid shortcuts.”

“We rallied in the third and then we broke down. Mentally and physically, we looked a step slow. Let’s hope we learn from this one. We are capable of much more than this showing. From this point, we have to be willing to pay the price. Nothing is going to be handed to us. You have to earn it,” concluded Morris.
Notables: Left wing Dwight King’s third period goal extends his goal-scoring streak to five games, as he has recorded six goals and an assist over that span for seven points (6-1=7)…King leads the Monarchs in points against Bridgeport this season with eight (5-3=8)…Right wing Brandon Kozun has eight points (5-3=8) over his last six games, dating back to February 11 against Portland…Center Justin Azevedo now has five assists (0-5=5) over his last three games
