It's great to see Jones proving that the record numbers he put up in Calgary were not just the result of playing on a strong offensive team.

    He's now 13 - 2 - 2, 1.60 GAA, .948 SV %.

He showed something special in his very first camp with the Kings and he keeps building on that talent at each level. Incredible undrafted find by Lombardi and Hextall.

Jones Named Reebok/AHL Rookie Of The Month

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, and the American Hockey League announced today that Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones has been named the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for December. Jones made nine appearances on the month and went 7-1-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage to help the Monarchs maintain first place in the Atlantic Division.

Jones's month was highlighted by his performance vs. Worcester on Dec. 10, when he stopped 45 of 46 shots in a 4-1 victory; his 22 saves over the final 20 minutes tied an AHL high for third-period saves this season. Even in his only loss of the month - a 4-2 setback to Portland on Dec. 12 - Jones recorded 39 saves, and he rebounded with 36 stops in a 2-1 overtime win at Portland on Dec. 18 to begin a five-game winning streak that would carry
    into the new year.

In recognition of his achievement, Jones will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monarchs home game.

Gamesheet: Manchester at Providence - Jan 7, 2011

“A lackluster first period set the tone for the game. Early on, we were outmuscled and out of sync,” explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following the game. “Providence made the most of their chances at the outset while we applied big time pressure throughout most of the second period. We had several chances to score but were unable to capitalize.

“The third period, we expended lots of energy but it was all for naught. We’ll need to be better at the start tomorrow and learn from this effort,” said Morris. “To be a top team, expectations are lofty so it’s important to rebound and move forward.”

    1/8 MCH 3 @ Portland 4

“We scored early in this one, however we were quick to find ways to give goals right back,” explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following the game. “Mental errors on our part were costly. There is a fine line between winning and losing. It’s time we buckle down in our end and start to take advantage of our chances for. We need more alert play and better awareness going forward.”

“There needs to be more commitment and consistency,” said Morris. “To lose it late like that stings. We sure could have won it with the chances we had. As a group, we need to bear down. Execution continues to be a strong message.”

    MCH 4 @ Bridgeport 3 OT

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Only 17 seconds after the officials waived off a goal, defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov scored at the 32-second mark of overtime to give the Manchester Monarchs a 4-3 overtime win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in their rescheduled game at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday night. The original game on Saturday, October 30 was postponed due to a visit by President Barack Obama.

Manchester (25-14-1-1) earned their 25th win of the season and leads the Atlantic Division with 52 points. Bridgeport (18-17-3-2) dropped their third overtime loss of the season and sit in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 41 points.

“It felt like we were in control a majority of the game but they wouldn’t go away,” explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “We thought we had won it early in overtime but a high stick was called on the play. It was the right call. The next rush up the ice, we were able to execute a nice play 4-on-4 and Slava (Voynov) was able to get the puck into the net for the win.

In case you missed it here is an article from Hockeys future

Los Angeles Kings boast enviable depth at AHL level - Hockey's Future

After hovering around the .500 mark for the first few weeks of the season, the Kings-affiliated Monarchs have gone on a tear. The team is sitting comfortably atop the Atlantic Division, thanks to a six-game win streak in late December. Balanced scoring from their forwards, contributions from their defense at both ends of the rink, and stellar goaltending have propelled Manchester to a 24-13-1-1 overall record.
