Default Christie Leaves Blaze For A Job In The ECHL

Jason Christie, who guided the Bloomington PrairieThunder to their first playoff appearance and earned Central Hockey League Coach of Year honors last season, has accepted a head coaching job in the ECHL.

Christie was offered and accepted the position late Monday night from the Ontario Reign, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings in Ontario, Calif.

"It all happened so fast," Christie said this morning. "It's a great opportunity there, but it will be very hard to leave here."

So Wait...this guy was the coach of the Bloomington Praire Thunder last season, just accepted the job with the Bloomington Blaze on July 13, 2011 and has now left (without ever actually coaching the Blaze) for the Reign? So if an AHL team calls this guy will be gone faster than you can remember his name.

Lets be fair about that situation. He was the coach of a team last season that was essentially disbanded by way of owner not renewing lease. Weeks later, a new group of owners show up in town with CHL expansion rights and a lease for a place to play. The "new" team is absorbing a bunch of the players and staff from the "old" team. What that situation amounts to is an ownership change and a name change. Its not like he bounced from town to town just ditching teams for raises or promotions. Same league. Same town. New owners.

As for that thought of him ditching Ontario for the AHL, good luck with that with the record he has as a coach already. Jason Christie hockey statistics & profile at hockeydb.com
Jeremy Roenick: I liked Patrick's quote, (that) he would have stopped me. I wanted to know where he was in Game 3. He was probably getting his jock out of the rafters of the United Center.
Patrick Roy: I can't really hear what Jeremy says, because I've got my two Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears.

Lets be honest He has a ton of experience and is a winner everywhere he goes. he has only had 1 losing season out of about 10.
BTW Harpo has been offered the Asst coaching job, its all up to him if he takes it.

I guess that depends on what you consider a losing season in the ECHL? Miissed the playoffs 2 times in 8 years, 1st round exit in another, 2nd round exit in 3 more and made it to the 4th round twice while never winning the cup.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm a bit jaded, but that isn't winning everywhere you go to me. Sure, every coach can't be a cup winner and he seems like he isn't the worst choice, but technically the Reign haven't had but 1 losing season out of 3 and yet I'd argue that they fell below expectation all 3 years so lets not put sugar coating on a turd and call it a donut.
