Thread: ECHL Thread 2010-11 - Ontario Reign

Ask any Royals fan that has watched their team get decimated by call ups just when things are starting to go well; you do get mad. The development thing gets old when you're shelling out thousands of dollars and huge amount of time on the team each year. Doesn't help that the Royals are the call up whores of the ECHL, either. While I love watching guys like Quick succeed after playing in Reading, what I ( and most other ECHL fans) want to see more than that is a Kelly Cup win.

I doubt you will see that. too many soccermom types that cheer and support no matter what happens and how pathetic the play/player is.
They are too attached to the players as people and don't really care about the hockey as much. I guess the access to the players is a good and bad thing. YES they make them food and bring ornage slices for post game.
Its can be tough to be objective when you know and talk to the players and their families. Like the Kings we will be there long after the players and coaches have moved on.

I think you may be giving the booster folks too much credit in their numbers of members who live, eat, sleep Reign hockey and wholly support this team no matter what. Just from what I've read on this thread of sth's reupping for next year seems favorable. Even a few guys I know who aren't lgker's nor booster types are reupping for various reasons as well.

I didn't renew from last year but my buddy committed. He's going choose pay as you go next year and opt out himself by not renewing for 11-12.

Going into this year, sth's were down 10% as it was. Perhaps there'll be some more decline next year and I think that'll impact decision making sooner or later by FO to do something....maybe even looking for another affiliation w/another NHL club??
Don't know the contractual obligations between parent and minor league teams.

In short, I see your soccer mom point, but I think the overall fan base and their dwindling #'s will trump them if this team continues to lack better improvement over the course of time and this includes sth renewals in the future.

They did the team picture thing in Reading a few years ago. Mine is still on the wall with other memorabilia. Everytime I look at it, I think "Man does Karl Taylor have a large skull or what?"

I hate the whole developmental thing too. As fans, we're basically told that we're there to fund the process while seeing very little benefit. The ECHL loves to brag about the number of callups and the number of players who got to sit on an NHL bench for a game or two.

The low point for me had to be 2009, when Toronto called up our goalie (Reimer), then assigned him to another team. Of course, that team went on to win the cup and Reimer was named the series MVP.

Like pug said, we pay a lot of money only to see a team in February look nothing like the team they put out before us in October. And it's usually for the worse. This year is strangely amazingly different. Must be the dawning of the age of Aquarius or something.

Please don't confuse the Booster club for the booster, while they are al loyal as any the "community" that is the Reign is far greater

Season ticket sales were up from last year in total numbers. Its normal for the renewals to be down, I think the renewal rate was about 89% Which is a great number considering they missed the playoffs.

If they don't do something with the coach and start winning ASAP the fan will leave, they are still in the honeymoon phase, IMO. Next year is a make or break year. if they continue to lose I expect coach will be fired fairly quickly, if he come back at all after this year.
