BTW Carrozzi got the W last night against Manchester. Yellow Horn got another point 3 in 3 games 1G 2A
They're not playing disciplined hockey at the moment, IMO. The stupid penalties remind me of seasons past, and Colorado, ranked #1 in the ECHL on the PP, made us pay (converted 4/9). Moreover, C.J. and others need to stop nullifying our own PP opportunities via retaliation PIMs. I understand that it's important to stick up for your teammates, but that's not the time to do it. They're shooting themselves in the foot with this nonsense.
Speaking of the Reign PP, it looked very disorganized yesterday. They went 0/5 and didn't seem to put much traffic in front of the Eagles' goalie. By comparison, Carlson didn't play all that well, and the defense in front of him didn't, either. (I thought Drew O'Connell did an outstanding job filling in between the pipes last month when Berube and Carrozzi were away; but, unfortunately, he's back with the Aces.)
With Yellow Horn likely to be in Manchester for awhile, if not the remainder of the season, we'd better find a way to prove that we're not just a one-trick pony. We have other goal scorers, and DaSilva's returning to the line up certainly helps in that regard. But this tit for tat mindset needs to stop if we're ever going to compete with Idaho and Alaska on an even footing.
Congrats to Kyle Kraemer on yesterday's hat trick, and to Reign alumnus Darcy Kuemper, who made his NHL debut in goal for the Wild last Tuesday against Vancouver.
Let's go, Reign!
I hear Berube will be back this week
Man I hope so... I'm not a huge fan of Berube, but these rec league goalies are killing us. As my five-year-old told me on Sunday, "Daddy, we're getting squshed."
Welcome to "developmental hockey," folks. Reading currently has players on 5 different AHL rosters. Our #1 defensive pairing at the beginning of the season are both in Worcester, which is San Jose's and San Fran's affiliate, not ours. This is the ECHL's version of parity. So while we get to watch (and pay for) a lower quality of hockey, the ECHL gets to crow about player #500 from the league reaching the NHL. It only took 25 years. Yawn. Oh yeah, and they counted all the NHL players who played during the lockout.
Word is that one of our goalies got called up by Hershey and is going to be reassigned to Ontario.
Alaska released goalie Drew O'Connell on Thursday. He played well the short time he was with the Reign (4 GP, 1.50 GAA and 0.928 SV%). If Kostenko, a Caps prospect who's trying to rebound from off-season surgery, doesn't work out, and Berube/Carrozzi remain in the A, then we might want to keep O'Connell in mind.
Love the additions of D.J. King and Matthew Register to the roster.
Manchester called up two forwards and signed them to PTO's today. Neither is from Ontario, but one is from SF, so the "it's too far to travel" excuse doesn't seem to hold true. Wonder why Stretch or Kraemer didn't get called up.
C.J. got signed to the Barons on Monday.
