Reign Defeat Thunder, 3-2, in Shootout
Irwin's Goal in 11th Round Seals Ontario Win

Ontario, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Stockton Thunder, 3-2, in an 11-round shootout. New Reign goaltender, Darcy Kuemper won his debut match, as he turned aside nine of the 11 Thunder shootout chances.

The game was scoreless heading toward the second intermission when Bill Bagron opened the scoring for the Reign. Dylan Yeo rounded the Thunder net and backhanded a pass to Bagron in the slot, who one-timed it over the glove of Stockton goaltender, Olivier Roy at 16:12. Francois Brisebois’ power-play goal with just four seconds left in the period gave Ontario a 2-0 lead. Derek Couture threw the puck at the Thunder net and Brisebois was there to put in the rebound. Bagron also had an assist on the play.

Stockton turned the tables on the Reign in the third period with an even-strength goal by Kevin Baker at 7:30 and a power-play goal by Dan Ringwald at 11:14 to tie the contest at two. Neither team could light the lamp in regulation or the overtime period, and the game went to a shootout.

C.J. Stretch and Steven Tarasuk each scored for the Reign, but the Thunder kept pace until the eleventh round when Geoff Irwin went low on Roy's stick side for what turned out to be the game winner.

Kuemper made 28 saves on 30 shots for the win, while Roy stopped 33 of 35 in the loss.
