WATERFORD - Nelson Emerson uses one word over and over to describe the success of the Los Angeles Kings, who have won the Stanley Cup twice in the past three seasons: preparation.

Emerson, who led a cup celebration in his hometown on Tuesday, downplayed his role as director of player development in the organization and instead gave credit to the players.

“It’s the kids themselves,” he said in an interview. “They put it upon themselves to be prepared.”
