Lucky breaks gives Red Wings important victory (Detroit Free Press)
Niklas Kronwall admitted flat-out his goal shouldn't have counted.
The Detroit Red Wings, though, delightedly counted two more points to their record after topping the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2, in a shootout Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.
Tomas Tatar, in his first game since burying his father, secured the win in the shootout. Kronwall assured the game went to a shootout, scoring with 27 seconds left in regulation. Kronwall's shot went off a Kings' stick, soared into the air, hit the netting - at which point play should have been ruled dead - bounced back out, hit Jonathan Quick in the back, and sank into L.A.'s net.
"It shouldn't have counted," Kronwall said, "but at this stage of the game, where we are in the standings, we'll take it."
