Summer arrived on Thursday, July 10, just in time for the fifth annual Mike Richards Charity Golf Tournament at the Kenora Golf and Country Club. It was the second time in three years Richards returned home a Stanley Cup champion. While there is not a schedule of events planned as of yet, Richards said the cup will be in Kenora very soon.
“Aug. 1 and 2 it’s going to be in Kenora. We have no plans yet,” Richards said before he teed off. “Like I said, it’s going to be pretty hectic with the long weekend and the amount of tourists in town. We’re going to try to enjoy it as much as possible with the people of Kenora and hopefully everyone can see it.”
Unlike his first championship with the Los Angeles Kings, Richards said the second go around was much tougher, as the Kings went the distance in three of their four series. In 26 games, he recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points.
