I’m not even kidding when I say this: if Blake and Hiller want to save their asses they need to call up and play Brandt Clarke over Roy. Roy and Gavrikov are completely underwater this series. You can play one but you cannot play both on the same pair against this Oilers team.

Roy is generally pretty solid in front of the net. At times this year he has been pretty awful everywhere else.

And he’s hitting. He’s making an impact on the ice because he hasn’t been this physical all year. That said, he’s at least 5M overpaid to do it and you can’t win with that kind of negative cap hit. To the point a buyout truly offsets the anchor keeping him.

I am pretty sure he has "no" trade protection until 7/1.

Lets hope so. Kings went all in with him. They also were impatient with Faber and wanted to win sooner, rather than later. This team will be as bad or worse next year. If there was no ability to upgrade the team at the draft, how are they going to do that in the offseason? Do they hope that Laf becomes Arvy 2.0? Try to keep Roy, but probably loose him. Why would he settle for less money than what his overpaid D partner is getting?

Dumpster dive for goalies again?

I thought it was mid July but either way you can’t have a player on the roster overpaid by 5M+. Only option if they keep him is bring in a coach who loads him up with Kempe and Fiala and go full scorched earth scoring line and let the chips fall. Still not worth it, but the overpay number would decrease somewhat.
