I liked it. I liked the fact that it took assumptions about what we thought would or should happen and just threw them aside. I liked the fact that women & POC are leading this film. Or at least I'm not butthurt by it. And I like that I don't know what it's all going to lead up to. And I absolutely loved Luke's milk drinking scene, LOL. I don't know where it ranks, I'd have to watch it a few more times, along with TFA. It's definitely above the prequels.

I get the theme and the arc of the Duet, but it creates a tension within the audience because how do you root for or despise someone in an existential battle? It's always going to teeter on the edge of whining, and it tends to tip over when you can't support that inner conflict with satisfying, fleshed out subplots and distractions while you are buying time for the story to meander to it's goal.

Empire did so effectively, Last Jedi, I dunno. I can't say anything was poor or annoying, but I don't know that I "liked" it either. It's an unnecessarily hard road to hoe, and they probably should have chosen a different path. I know, father's sins, children's burden, forgiving and growing. I don't really need to see the third/ninth episode to know how the story ends, I just want to like everything else surrounding it a little bit more than this one.
I like this take on it, specifically the question of if it's interesting. Maybe the ability to enjoy this arc is admitting that it's a story for a different generation.

I'm all for a "different" direction, especially if done well......however this film had PISS POOR writing!

    - Giant starships run out of fuel? Really? You would think they would have some sort of giant reactor on board to keep them supplied with fuel....like a modern day aircraft carrier.
We are supposed to believe they go to some sort of port to fuel up?

    - If the starships can out-run you at sub-light speed, why didn't the First Order have one ship jump to light speed and end up right in front of the resistance fleet and destroy them all?
Why the dumb chase? It's not like we have never seen starships appear from light speed out of nowhere and surprise the opposing side.
......but we all know the slow speed starship chase was a dumb plot device to make way for an even more stupid needless plot device in the middle act for Rose/Finn. Let's not get started on all that stupid.

    - Maybe purple hair Admiral should share here strategy/plan with her command and captain, no?
Surely and Admiral would not risk a mutiny....well yea, she did.
....no worries though, She is going to do a suicide light speed jump through another starship........because in over (let's estimate) 50-60 years of hyperspace travel...nobody ever on purpose or accidentally did that?
This was the first time? Really?.....or was the First Order that stupid not to realize that a suicide jump could be an option after the escape pods were jettisoned, and the starship was doing a 180 aiming directly for your fleet.....umm...what?

    - Luke never really cared that his best buddy Han died at the hands of his own son? Really? We are supposed to believe that? That's quite a change in one's character.
All it took to change his character was remorse for almost killing Kylo, and Kylo and his Knights of Ren taking out the Jedi? This same Luke that defied Yoda and Obi-wan and did not kill his father but rather redeemed him....this Luke? Really?
......oh, and where did all the Knights of Ren go?

    - Luke never asked "Hey, where did you find my dad's light sabre?" He just threw it over his shoulder. ummm ok.

    - Finn is going to go on a suicide run to take out the giant cannon in order to save all of what's left of the Resistance behind the giant wall/door/gate.
He knows that if he does not take out that cannon, they will ALL die! Rose, knows this too.......and yet she decides to knock Finn off his suicide run, thus sealing the fate of all of the resistance, and herself and Finn too, just to kiss him and make some "statement"?!?!?!? Really?
....because nobody knew magic space astral-projection Luke was going to show up and save them.

    - Luke talks about how Snoke was influencing Kylo/Ben early on, and it was bad/evil, and Luke knowing about all this dark side power was going to go to a giant step to kill Kylo to stop this ultimate evil guy Snoke.
Amazing! This guy Snoke must be something else.....can't wait to hear about him....nope....he dies before anything is revealed.

    - Which leads to Hux, Phasma, & Kylo to run the First Order.....so far all they have done is been bested by a rag-tag group of resistance fighters.
Hux---has been shown to be void of being strategic.
Phasma---Looks amazing, but easily beaten by nobodies TWICE. Total screen time of maybe 8 minutes over two films. Brilliant!
Kylo--Bested by Rey over and over again, and is impulsive and childish.
As viewers we should be in awe and fear the First Order?!?!?!

I could go on and on.
Sure, you can say the OG trilogy had plot holes and convenient plot devices, but The Last Jedi REALLY does stand out as a horrific mess of writing on so many levels.

Sure, take the Star Wars story in a new direction, but please, somebody at Disney read the script and get it right. It's really, really poorly done. Amateur hour.

    Very Funny!
Pretty much hits the nail on the head for what a calamity this film really is.
    Horrific, piss, poor writing.

I liked the movie, i took it for what it was, good entertainment. Some rebuttal points from my point of view:

    - Giant starships run out of fuel? Really? You would think they would have some sort of giant reactor on board to keep them supplied with fuel....like a modern day aircraft carrier.
We are supposed to believe they go to some sort of port to fuel up?

Even aircraft carriers need to refuel their reactors. granted it's probably over a decade before they need to refuel their nuclear reactors. Who knows how long these ships have been running. Plus they might be siphoning off fuel to fuel up fighters and freighters, etc. The old books (i haven't read any of the new canon), yes they go to ports or dock and refuel.

If you think about it, they jump to lightspeed, the rebel fleet turns and flees the otherway in evasive action. or if they jump through the fleet and risk destroying themselves. It's not like you can thread a needle with a ship the size of california. They should of called for reinforcements to come in the other side and box them in. Plus in the old canon, you burn more fuel at sublight and ramping up to lightspeed, then you do at lightspeed itself, so it would be advantageous for the First order to keep them at sublight fighting to burn off their remaining fuel.

    - Maybe purple hair Admiral should share here strategy/plan with her command and captain, no?
Surely and Admiral would not risk a mutiny....well yea, she did.

She told the people who mattered? Obviously the shuttle pilots, etc knew? Not everyone gets to know a secret?

....no worries though, She is going to do a suicide light speed jump through another starship........because in over (let's estimate) 50-60 years of hyperspace travel...nobody ever on purpose or accidentally did that?
This was the first time? Really?.....or was the First Order that stupid not to realize that a suicide jump could be an option after the escape pods were jettisoned, and the starship was doing a 180 aiming directly for your fleet.....umm...what?
They were shuttles, not escape pods? You could think that the ship was just shielding the remaining shuttles?

    - Luke never really cared that his best buddy Han died at the hands of his own son? Really? We are supposed to believe that? That's quite a change in one's character.
All it took to change his character was remorse for almost killing Kylo, and Kylo and his Knights of Ren taking out the Jedi? This same Luke that defied Yoda and Obi-wan and did not kill his father but rather redeemed him....this Luke? Really?

It really looked like Luke wasn't mentally stable. Maybe all the grief from having all his students killed wiped him out so he's dead inside? And Rey started bringing him back to life?

......oh, and where did all the Knights of Ren go?
I thought they were part of the Snoke Guard. Would be interesting to see this.

    This did bother me too

    - Luke talks about how Snoke was influencing Kylo/Ben early on, and it was bad/evil, and Luke knowing about all this dark side power was going to go to a giant step to kill Kylo to stop this ultimate evil guy Snoke.
Amazing! This guy Snoke must be something else.....can't wait to hear about him....nope....he dies before anything is revealed.

Ben/Obi-Wan died before knowing his backstory too. Seems to be a theme.

    - Which leads to Hux, Phasma, & Kylo to run the First Order.....so far all they have done is been bested by a rag-tag group of resistance fighters.
Hux---has been shown to be void of being strategic.

Same as Grand Moff Tarkin, blow crap up with a superweapon, or umm blow stuff up?

Phasma---Looks amazing, but easily beaten by nobodies TWICE. Total screen time of maybe 8 minutes over two films. Brilliant!
Total Meh Character. Kinda like Boba Fett? Captures Han, then gets thrown into the pit of dispair.

Kylo--Bested by Rey over and over again, and is impulsive and childish.
Wasn't the original Luke the same?

First Official Synopsis for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Teases an Eventful Adventure
    http://collider.com/solo-a-star-wars...synopsis/#logo

Is it bad that I can hardly remember The Last Jedi? Just kinda was...
Personally I think I may have had MY Star Wars. The Force Awakens was fun...nostalgia trip sure, but still warmed the cockles. TLJ seemed more concerned with tearing away that nostalgia, and replacing it with something...that I just wasn't a fan of. So...maybe these future SW movies aren't for ME. But for a younger audience. Getting old kinda sucks.
