Default The world is f-ed up and pretty sick right now.

US officials: Video shows American's beheading

First let let me stop you political types before you post: it is not that the victim is a Yank. Beheading anyone simply because they are not "like you" is sick and f-ed up!

BTW the group that has done this has carried out mass executions of various groups that are "not like them".

I probably would not have usually posted this but I am in a most foul mood!

This is why you destroy evil when you find it. You don't try and understand it, negotiate with it, bring it to justice, you simply destroy it before it grows.

Every day I am amazed at how ****ed up things are becoming. Kids planning to murder their schoolmates, several car chases on tv, police getting shot or shooting people, daily shots fired from car to car, and even on the streets just crazy behavior by random people walking around. Glad that I'll be checking out sooner than later because it looks like it's not going to get any better.

Is that not what groups like ISIS think?

Yea, it is pretty amazing how f'd up people are. I am not sure if it is getting more f'd up, or because of the current era of immediate dissemination of content, to anyone in the world, is making us more aware.

I keep hearing this. I am sure people ten thousand years ago kept hearing this. The fact is that we live in the most peaceful, prosperous and healthy time in recorded history. And it is not even close. People just lack perspective. 200 years ago beheadings were a common occurrence the world over that surprised no one. The fact that these days someone being beheaded is shocking indicates just how far we've come. North Korea, which we consider the horror of horrors, would have been a perfectly average country a few hundred years ago.

Ask people in the U.S. about crime and most people will say it is going up when we're at something like 70-year lows. The only thing that has gotten worse is the media, which reports the worst news it can find the world over, distorts it and transmits it to you in seconds. So a horrible thing that happens half a world away has the immediacy of something happening two blocks over. A hundred years ago, we would not have learned of this beheading til months later, if ever, and it would cause most people to simply shrug their shoulders when they found out.

You want an actual statistic demonstrating my point? OK. World-wide, people born in the early 1950's had a life expectancy of 46.6 years. Life expectancy for people born between 2005-2010 is projected to be 67.6 years. That's a nearly 50% increase in life expectancy in a half-century, worldwide! In developing countries, the life expectancy jumped well over 50% - from 41.7 years to 67.7 years. That's insane, and it shows the amazing amount of progress which has been made in fighting war, disease and poverty within our own lifetimes.

Human tolerance for war, hunger, poverty, torture and killing has simply disappeared in a few decades. What would be considered non-events even a few decades ago, like Gaza, are grabbing headlines because we can't tolerate the deaths of a few thousand people when not so long ago, the deaths of millions was not a big deal. There's still a lot of work to be done. But let's not act as if things are getting worse when actual evidence indicates that things have gotten dramatically better for the majority of the world's population.

So true. The world is not getting more messed up, we just didn't have the media or the internet years ago to tell us about the the messed up things the world does. Even with the rise of media technology, most people still live in a bubble when it comes to how they see things. ISIS has been beheading entire villages and armies for a while already, but it took one American for people to finally take notice. That's why I ditched most mainstream media long ago.

If you are interested to see how real the world can get, Vice news is the absolute best at reporting things other media outlets won't, and getting to places other media outlets won't even dare to venture.

    news.vice.com

There's also Liveleak, but I don't recommend it for everyone as I'm sure the beheading video is there.
