Do you have your hands on this laptop or are you trying to do this remotely?

No, I have it...if you want to throw a troubleshoot list I can get right on it.

    Try this Hip:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...em-repair-disc

My Windows 7 laptop crapped out on me back in Feb and I did the above on my wife's Win 8 machine and applied the disc to mine.

Worked like a champ until my CPU died about a month later.

You'll need the Windows key code from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Issue is....how can I get the computer to load off the disk?

When you see the very first BIOS splash screen (right after you hit the power button) mash F12. It will let you choose what to boot from.

Alas it was not to be, thought it was going to work but it simply kept freezing up during the windows install.

Im done with it but thanks for all the advice, I learned a lot and though I pray to god it never happens in the future, at least have a plan of attack.

Thanks again for the help and advice.

Some computers also have a recover partition when you press F8 so you may not need the disk.
